Death toll from Equatorial Guinea blast rises to 98

The death toll from a series of explosions at a military barracks in Equatorial Guinea rose to 98 after more bodies were recovered, the government said on Tuesday.

At least 615 people were injured in the blasts that took place on Sunday in the Mondong Nkuantoma neighborhood of the coastal city of Bata.

316 of the injured have been discharged and 299 remain in care in various hospitals in the city, the government said. that

More than 60 people trapped under the rubble were also rescued by the civil protection corps and fire service, according to the government.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema initially said that the explosion came from negligent handling of dynamite in the military barracks.
