Death toll from Nigeria’s building collapse rises to 36

At least 36 people died after a building collapsed in the wealthy neighborhood of Ikoyi in Nigeria's biggest city of Lagos on Monday.

After 10 more dead bodies were pulled out of the rubble of the 21-story building, the death toll has reached 36, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.

A rescue effort is being conducted by the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos State (NEMA), and other responders. It is being supervised by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, and the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

According to NEMA, the military is scheduled to “take over operations”.
