Death toll from Turkey’s earthquake climbs to 114

Turkey’s death toll from the massive magnitude 6.6 quake that hit Izmir province on Friday rose to 114, the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said on Wednesday.

1,035 people were injured in the earthquake. Of those, 137 are being treated in hospital at the moment, it noted.

So far, there have been 1,713 aftershocks, 45 of them were greater than magnitude 4.0, it noted.

It added that search and rescue efforts to recover people trapped under the rubble continued at 2 collapsed or damaged buildings.
