Death toll in hurricane that hits Bahamas rises to 43

As search and rescue efforts continued on Day 5 of Hurricane Dorian, which struck the Bahamas in Category 5, the death toll from the hurricane reportedly increased to 43.

The Bahamas were the most affected by the hurricane, which dropped from Category 5 level to Category 1 level.

Hurricane Dorian, which is on record as the most severe and major hurricane to hit the Bahamas so far, wreaked havoc in the Bahamas, leaving thousands homeless.

The death toll has risen to 43 in total, including 35 in Abacos Islands where the hurricane-affected Bahamas.

Officials said the death toll could rise, while the hurricane is moving north of the east coast of the United States.

Hundreds of people may have been stranded in their homes due to heavy rains and rising waters on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, where Hurricane Dorian began to take effect.
