"24 of our citizens have lost their lives" announced Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akdağ revised the death in a press conference related to the train derailment took place in Tekirdağ in the town of Çorlu.
The train carrying 363 passengers from Edirne's Uzunköprü to Istanbul derailed on Sunday. Turkish Ministry of Transport also announced that heavy rains in the area had preceded the accident, which railway tracks slid down from its original spot due to heavy rain.
Giving information about search and rescue efforts, Akdağ said 24 people have lost their lives while 194 people had undergone an outpatient treatment and 124 wounded were treated in various hospitals.
On the other hand, the temporary publication ban on the accident has also lifted.
Radio and Television Supreme Council announced on its internet site that the temporary publication news ban related to train derailment in Tekirdağ's Çorlu has been lifted.
