According to the officials, six people are confirmed dead, at least eight are missing presumed dead, whilst a further thirty suffered serious injuries, twenty-five of those are critical.
The volcano erupted on 9 December 2019. The ash plume rose to 3.7 kilometers (12,000 ft) into the air.
It was initially believed that there were about 100 tourists on or near to the island when the eruption took place. Later this figure was revised to 47 people who were on the island when the eruption happened, including 24 Australians.
