With the beginning of 'Olive Branch Operation' against PYD in Syria's Afrin on January 20, the prosecution was launched against anti-'Olive Branch Operation' social media users in Turkiye.
While dozens including some HDP managers were taken into custody due to their anti-operation and pro-terror shares, an investigation has been launched on a large number of people due to their posts.
The Chief Public Prosecutors Office announced that they shared their disclosures as "praising terror and terrorism", "misleading the society with misinformation news and social media shares", and in this context, they stated that the detections related to the offenses under criminal investigation continued.
Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had probed Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen and HDP Co-Chair Nadir Yıldırım due to their statements about the operation.
The Ministry of Interior has stated that 24 people have been detained over “terrorist propaganda”. 17 of the detainees are in Diyarbakır.
Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into statements about the campaign made by the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven.
Later, Refai Baran, who is Turkish opposition Peoples' Democratic Party’s (HDP) district head of Diyarbakir’s Bismil, was also arrested.
In its statement, the prosecution stated, “An investigation has been launched against the figures who incite people to enmity and hostility about the ‘Operation Olive Branch’, and propagandizing for the armed terrorist organizations on their social media accounts”.
As part of the investigation, 17 people have been detained on charges of “sharing the false news that deceives public with respect to the campaign” and “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”.
Social media operations continue throughout the country
Pediatrician Dr. Ö.B. who was working at Kütahya Emet State Hospital was detained on the charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” on social media in Emet, Kütahya.
Investigations were launched by chief public prosecutor's offices in Ankara, Van, Diyarbakir, Mardin, Mus, and Istanbul against some social media users, who share delusive information on social media.
12 arrests in Afrin protest
Police detained 12 people in Istanbul Kadıköy for making PKK/PYD propaganda, who were gathered to protest 'Olive Branch' Operation on Afrin launched by the Turkish Armed Forces.
