Dutch to send asylum seekers back

The Netherlands is preparing to send asylum seekers, who traveled by land road to their first arrived EU country.

The Netherlands is preparing to process the applications of asylum seekers who enter the country directly by air and sea only and to send the others back to the countries where they come from.

According to Mark Harbers, the minister of asylum and migration, who speaks to the Volkskrant newspaper, as the European Union (EU) countries pass on this practice, asylum seekers will give up on traveling to Europe.

The Dutch government plans to extend its plan to other European countries and the EU's executive organ, also presented to the European Commission's immigration and citizenship commissioner Dimitris Avramopulos.

The Netherlands, which is the planner readmission agreement signed between of EU-Turkiye, aims to implement this model with other countries in the long term.

According to the BBC, the model, supported by the EU administration, aims to house the refugees in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia in the camps in the region where they live. (ILKHA)
