The relations between Turkey and Russia as well as regional developments, Nagorno-Karabakh and Syria in particular, were discussed, according to the statement.
Erdoğan stated that an appropriate step was taken last night on the path to a lasting solution regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pointing out that this significant opportunity, to which Turkey and Russia have together contributed a lot, should be used without wasting it for a fair and lasting peace and in order for the stability to be established in the region, Erdoğan stressed that the most important issue at this point is that Armenia should abide by the ceasefire and the commitments stipulated in the joint declaration.
Erdoğan noted that since Turkey will also carry out monitoring and overseeing activities for the ceasefire together with Russia through a Joint Center to be set up in a location, which will be determined by Azerbaijan on its lands that were saved from Armenian occupation, a great responsibility falls to the Russian side, too, at this stage.
Erdoğan further stressed that it is of importance that the Azerbaijanis, who had to leave Karabakh because of the Armenian occupation, return to their homes and a corridor be opened up between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
Stating that Nagorno-Karabakh has shown the importance of the cooperation between Turkey and Russia in the solution of regional conflicts and crises, Erdoğan noted that the same spirit of cooperation should be displayed for the Syrian crisis as well, and that a similar mechanism can be created there, too.
