Erdoğan, Iranian President Rouhani talk over phone

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.

During the conversation, regional issues and steps aimed at enhancing bilateral relations in economy, transportation, security and other areas were discussed, according to Turkish presidency.

Erdoğan said Turkey preserved the will to strengthen Turkey-Iran relations.

Expressing Turkey’s wish for the new US administration to abandon unilateral sanctions on Iran and remove the unjustified obstacles to the welfare of the Iranian people, Erdoğan noted that the statements made in the recent days on the issue offer a new window of opportunity.

All parties meeting on the common ground of making Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action functional again is the most reasonable course of action, Erdoğan stated, further stressing it is of importance that the channels of dialogue be kept open despite all the hardships.
