EU nations agree to Brexit delay until January 31

The European Union granted Britian a new Brexit delay until Jan. 31.

The European Union has agreed to grant Britain a new Brexit delay until Jan. 31 next year, EU Council chief Donald Tusk said on Twitter.

"The EU27 has agreed that it will accept the UK's request for a Brexit flextension until 31 January 2020," Tusk said.

Tusk noted that the EU decision is expected to be formalized through a written procedure, meaning a special summit of EU leaders won’t likely be necessary to approve the move

On the other hand, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman said it was Parliament’s fault, not Johnson’s, that another Brexit delay was needed.

The European Union now is waiting an approval from London. Once that is in, a 24-hour countdown will start when the EU’s 27 members can still object or else the decision will have been taken.
