Examination to be conducted in Saudi Consulate building: Foreign Affairs

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hami Aksoy responded to a question about the situation of dissident journalist Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi.

Indicating that the developments in the fate of Jamal Khashoggi have been closely followed by the judiciary, security and intelligence units since the day of the incident, Aksoy said the investigation initiated by the relevant authorities to determine Khashoggi's fate has been continuing extensively.

"Consular building will be examined"

"Although consular premises are inviolable according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the receiving state can conduct an examination in these premises with the consent of the head of the diplomatic mission," he added.

The Saudi authorities have notified that they are open to cooperation in this regard and that the examination can be conducted in their consular buildings in Istanbul.

"Within the framework of the investigation, an examination will be conducted in the said consular buildings," Aksoy said.
