Fire in forested areas in Izmir and Muğla

Fires broke out on Sunday night in woodland in Bornova, Urla and Karabağlar districts of Izmir and Milas and Bodrum districts of Muğla, west of Turkey.

Fires broke out in woodland for yet unknown reason in Bornova, Urla and Karabağlar districts of Izmir and Milas and Bodrum districts of Muğla while firefighters are trying to take the fire under control by air and land interventions.

Numerous firefighters and Izmir Forest regional directorate teams were dispatched to the areas. The fire is being tackled by 2 helicopters and 4 sprinklers.

The bushfire in Urla sputtered into the village of upper Orhanli, while the village was evacuated as a precaution.

"A total of 23 helicopters, 250 sprinklers, a thousand personnel, and 35 dozers are involved in firefighting in Turkey," said Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli in a statement.
