France plans to send another frigate to Libya, Defense Ministry says

French Defense Ministry Florence Parly said that they will send another frigate to Libya to support United Nations arms embargo on the country.

"In the coming weeks, we will deploy the Latouche-Treville frigate in the region to reduce tensions in Libya and support the UN arms embargo, which is a sine qua non condition for the political process. In this way, we will strengthen our contribution to the European Union's Operation IRINI," Parly said.

The European Union Naval Force Mediterranean Operation IRINI was launched on March 31, 2020 with the aim to enforce the United Nations arms embargo to Libya. Operation IRINI is a European Union military operation under the umbrella of the Common Security and Defense Policy.
