Germany: 139 people die from coronavirus in the last 24 hours

The number of infected people has been 166,152, according to Robert Koch Institute.

139 people have died in the last 24 hours, rising the country’s death toll due to the virus to 6,831.

More than 135,100 patients suffering from coronavirus have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The low preliminary fatality rate was seen in Germany, compared to Italy and Spain, resulting in a discussion and explanations that cite the country's higher number of tests performed, higher number of available intensive care beds with respiratory support, absence of COVID-19 analyses in autopsies performed and higher proportion of positive cases among younger people.

However, the head of the Robert Koch Institute warned that the German death rate would increase over time.

Globally, at least 3,659,139 people have so far tested positive for coronavirus. Of those, more than 252,575 people have lost their lives until now.
