Germany's government spokesman, Stephen Seibert said NATO member Turkey's decision to acquire an S-400 air defense system from Russia is being monitored with great care by the German government.
Seibert said it is of great importance that NATO's forces have the ability to work together. "For this reason, an ally's desire to supply the Russian system raises the tough questions that are heavily discussed in the relevant NATO boards."
Seibert claimed that Turkey might be a target for sanctions if it buys S-400s.
"Therefore, taking into account Turkey's position within the transatlantic alliance, we will be pleased Turkey to rethink its decision."
Germany's Ambassador to Turkey Martin Erdmann recently announced that Turkey's decision to buy the S-400 from Russia caused great concern in the German government.
