Hamas delegation led by Haneyya meets Lebanese president

A high-level delegation from the Hamas Movement led by its political bureau chief Ismail Haneyya met on Monday with Lebanese President Michel Aoun at the presidential palace near Beirut.

During the meeting, president Aoun reiterated his country’s firm position in support of the Palestinian cause and its rejection of any plan to resettle the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

The president also applauded the Palestinian resistance for its distinguished steadfastness in the face of the Israeli aggression during the last war on Gaza.

Haneyya, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Lebanon’s official and popular role in supporting the Palestinian cause, especially during the Sword of Jerusalem battle, affirming that the Palestinian victory in Gaza belongs to the Arab and Muslim nations and the world’s free people.

The Hamas leader highlighted his Movement’s keenness on being open towards all regional and international parties and briefed the president on the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian arena.

He also put the president in the picture of the difficult humanitarian conditions the Palestinians suffer from due to Israel’s practices and urged him to improve the living conditions of the Palestinians living in Lebanon.

The Hamas delegation led by Haneyya arrived in Lebanon on Sunday for a visit that is slated to last several days, as part of a foreign tour that included several Arab countries.

"Lebanon's visit is significant for Hamas since it is a chance to meet with [Lebanese] state leaders [...], as well as leaders of Palestinian factions, Lebanese parties, and resistance groups, and our Palestinian compatriots in refugee camps," Haneyya told a news conference held at Beirut International Airport.
