“Eighty-five years ago, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, a Muslim Arab Syrian freedom fighter who led the revolution against the British occupation to Palestine, was martyred by the British colonizers on the land of Palestine,” HAMAS stated.
HAMAS underlined that Al-Qassam had a strategic vision that the issue of Palestine should be considered as an Arab and Islamic cause and thus every Muslim and Arab should shoulder the responsibility of defending Palestine.
“This vision also set resistance as the sole means to liberate Palestine,” HAMAS noted.
Highlighting that Al-Qassam-led honorable revolution was an icon of freedom struggle against colonialists, HAMAS added: “Moreover, this freedom fighter sacrificed himself for this cause and his martyrdom led to the Grand Palestinian Revolution in 1936. We are very proud that our military wing is named after this Arab and Muslim hero and Al-Qassam Army now follows his footprints until liberation. May Al-Qassam now rest in peace!”
