Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, who was elected as the Chairman of HÜDA PAR after the 4th Ordinary Congress of his party, met with media representatives for the first time after the congress.
Stating that many civilians were tried and sentenced in the military courts established after the coup by the Sisi junta in Egypt, and death sentences were given for some, Yapıcıoğlu invited everyone who has a conscience against the death sentences to give a voice.
Yapıcıoğlu said: “There are many people who have been imprisoned for nearly 10 years. There are tens of thousands of people who have been victimized by false accusations. 91 of them were executed. Recently, the Egyptian Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of 12 people, including former ministers and lawmakers. There is a possibility that these people will be executed at any time. These 12 people will most likely be executed if there is not enough international reaction. Are these decisions really death sentences given after the trial? Not for us. In our opinion, these death sentences are political murders ordered by the junta and covered with law. The sad thing is that the whole world is silent about it. Especially the western world. Unfortunately, the western world, which markets itself about human rights, constantly voicing that it is the protector of those values and trying to align the world with these values, unfortunately does not even show its reaction to political death sentences in some countries, which it shows during long detention. Being detained for a long time is a violation of human rights. It is a violation of human rights if a person is not given a fair trial. The wrongness of these violations can be seen one day and this wrong can be abandoned. But none of these decisions are like the death sentence, and there is no going back in any of these decisions. Death is only once. I would like to voice my objection and rebellion against the hypocrisy of those who apply double standards in this regard, as well as the silence of the political world and the press, against the decisions that have such painful consequences and which are clear to be cruelty.”
Answering the question asked about the death sentences in Egypt, Yapıcıoğlu said: “I think that not only the government but also politics and the press did not respond adequately to the executions in Egypt. Probably the current state of the government is related to the normalization that came with Egypt. However, we believe that if anyone stays silent in the face of obvious persecution, they lose self-respect. Human life is above all politics and interests. The situation of a person who is killed unjustly is like the killing of all humanity. Of course, my reaction and the reaction of the President will not be the same in terms of effect. All leaders with respect for human life should react to the death penalty. If there is a collective reaction, it will have an impact.”
“The fundamental needs of Syrian refugees who took refuge in Turkey should be met properly”
Touching upon the issue of millions of Syrian refugees in Turkey after the civil war and US intervention in Syria's war, Yapıcıoğlu stated: “After what happened in Syria, there have been very serious losses. Millions of people took refuge in Turkey. I am not against their coming. If something like this happens to us, we will take shelter in our neighbor, since we will not be able to fly. I think that the essential needs of people who had to flee from there should be met absolutely.”
“America's only friend is the zionist regime”
“When America was called to Syria, we called on the government and said that they should not make this mistake. If America comes there, it will do nothing for your benefit, for the benefit of Syria. America has only one friend, and that is the Zionist regime that occupied Palestine. Also, due to their historical ties, maybe the British can be their friend. Apart from these, other western countries are not friends of America. America only thinks of its own interests. When it comes to Syria, it comes to stir it, to guarantee its own political interests, to ensure the security of the Zionist occupation regime. America is doing and will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure its own interests,” Yapıcıoğlu added.
