While the tension between Ankara and Athens is increasing day by day, Greece's Minister of Defense Panos Kammenos mentioned Turkiye as "enemy" in the northern Aegean island of Ikaria where he participated in a military exercise.
"Let them challenge one inch [of Greek land] if they dare," said Greek Defense Minister. Kammenos announced that 3,500 additional troops are deployed in the Aegean and another 3,500 in Evros, across Turkiye’s border in Thrace.
Kammenos, the Greek government's junior coalition partner, leader of the nationalist ANELE (Independent Greeks) criticized within the country to raise tensions with Turkiye.
The main opposition center-right party New Democracy said Kammenos’s tough talk is only "adding fuel to the fire."
