"I would encourage Turkiye to go back and read this resolution," said US Department of State Spokeswoman Heather Nauert in the daily press meeting, that the ceasefire decision adopted by the United Nations covers throughout Syria.
Responding to the questions that the 30 consecutive days ceasefire in Syria covers Turkiye's Afrin operation or not, Nauert said: "Turkiye is more than welcome to go back and read the exact text of this UN Security Council resolution, and I would suggest that they do so."
Noting that Afrin is certainly within Syria, Nauert said, "I would encourage Turkiye to go back and read this resolution, the unanimously agreed upon resolution on Saturday," then she reads a part of the ceasefire resolution that the ceasefire covers all of Syria.
"'It affirms that the cessation of hostilities shall not apply to military operations against the Daesh, al-Qaida, and al-Nusrah Front, and all other individuals, groups, undertakings, and entities associated with al-Qaida and Daesh and other terror groups as designated by the Security Council.' So I think the resolution was clear here in naming exactly which groups are considered to be exempt from the ceasefire," she added.
