Interior Minister speaks on state-appointed officials

"The state is functioning, the law is functioning, democracy is functioning and the process is functioning. Those who seek to open a legitimate channel between terror and democracy are irresponsible," said Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu.

Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu responded questions of reporters regarding the replacing mayors of Diyarbakır, Mardin and Van with state-appointed officials on the arrival to "Ankara Migration Assessment Meeting".

"The state is functioning, the law is functioning, democracy is functioning and the process is functioning," said interior minister while underlined that those who seek to open a legitimate channel between terror and democracy are irresponsible.

"The most basic duty of law and democracy is not to exploit the clean votes given by the nation to terror. That is the fundamental duty of the state," he said.

"We must say to those who say big words. Those who want to put democracy and electability into the realm of terror exemption are, of course, committing a huge mistake," Soylu said.

At the end of his statements, Soylu said to those who expect Turkey to tolerate terrorism are wrong. "It is extremely wrong to expect the state, the rules, the law, and the Constitution to remain silent, especially to those who try to turn terrorism into a center in municipalities with clean votes of the people.
