Iran confirms 2,489 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours

Iran has reported 2,489 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of infections to 222,669, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari announced in her daily press conference on Sunday.

After 144 coronavirus patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours, the country’s death toll from the virus rose to 10,508.

There are at least 2,946 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, 183,301 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far, more than 1,610,869 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

She described the condition in the provinces of Kordestan, Khuzestan, West Azarbaijan, Kermanshah, and Hormozgan as a red status and in the provinces of Bushehr, Ilam, East Azarbaijan, and Khorasan Razavi as alarming.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 502,189 with 10,129,054 cases and more than 5,493,638 recoveries.
