Iran reports 198 new deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours

Iran has reported 198 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 13,608, the Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Lari said in her daily press conference on Thursday.

After 2,500 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 267,061 in the country.

There are at least 3,471 people in intensive care units, Lari said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, 230,608 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far, more than 2,070,000 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 587,554 with 13,721,506 cases and more than, 8,176,046 recoveries.
