Iran’s coronavirus death toll rises to 77,994

According to the country's Health Ministry, Iran has reported 229 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus to 77,994.

After 12,428 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the number of infections has risen to 2,804,632 in the country.

There are at least 5,081 people in intensive care units, the ministry said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, more than 2,290,613 patients have been discharged from hospital after being cured.

So far, more than 18,551,061 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokeswoman.

According to Worldometer, a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 3,433,373 with 165,617,501 cases more than 144,671,036 recoveries.
