Iran’s death toll from coronavirus rises to 4,683

98 more people have died from the coronavirus pandemic in the past 24 hours, bringing Iran’s death toll from the virus to 4,683, said Iran's Health Ministry Public Relations Office Kianoush Jahanpour on Tuesday.

The country has so far reported 74,877 confirmed coronavirus cases, an increase of 1,547 cases in the last 24 hours.

“48,129 patients suffering from the novel coronavirus have recovered and been discharged from hospitals so far,” Jahanpour said.

“Some 3,691 patients are in critical condition,” he noted.

Iran reported its first confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections on 19 February 2020 in Qom.

As of 8 April 2020, Iran has the fifth-highest number of COVID-19 deaths after Italy, Spain, the United States and the United Kingdom, and the seventh-highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world.

The coronavirus pandemic, which was first identified in Wuhan, China, and was declared a pandemic by WHO on March 11, has until now infected 1,934,557 people, killing at least 120,438 worldwide.
