2,364 new cases of coronavirus were reported over the past 24 hours, increasing the total number of infections in Iran to 171,789, Iran’s Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said in a statement on Sunday.
72 coronavirus patients lost their lives in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 8,291, he added.
There are 2,696 people in intensive care, Jahanpour said, adding that, of those tested positive for the virus, 134,349 have recovered and been discharged from hospital.
So far, 1,084,857 tests have been taken across the country to detect infected cases, said the Health Ministry spokesman.
According to Worldometer, which is a reference website that provides counters and real-time statistics for diverse topics, the global death toll from coronavirus has surpassed 402,686 with 7,008,556 cases and more than 3,428,962 recoveries.
