Statements of German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer "Islam does not belong to Germany," have led to the disagreement between the coalition partners Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU).
German Parliament Speaker Wolfgang Schäuble voiced that Islam should now be accepted as part of Germany. CDU politician Schäuble, in an interview with the Funke Media Group, said, "We cannot prevent the course of history. Everyone will have to deal with the fact that Islam becomes a part of our country."
CSU German Parliamentary Group President Alexander Dobrindt said in a statement to Focus magazine, "Islam does not belong to Germany," he repeated his word. Dobrindt argued that the phrase "Islamic is belong to Germany" would be a false message to the refugees, arguing that this statement was "an obstacle to harmonize". "CSU will not change the view, but most people think that Islam does not belong to Germany," Dobrindt said.
