Istanbul to host quartet summit on Syria

The quartet summit on Syria hosting by Turkiye with the participation of Germany, France, Russia will be held in Istanbul on Saturday.

Russia, Germany, France, and Turkiye will hold a summit in Istanbul to discuss on Syria on Saturday.

The quartet summit is expected to begin at 14.00 with the participation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as UN Special Envoy to Syria Stephan de Mistura.

The main agenda will be the strengthening of the ceasefire in Idlib and joint efforts for a political solution to the Syrian crisis. Developments in the field, the situation in Idlib after the Sochi agreement, as well as Astana and the ongoing political solution process on the Geneva platforms will be discussed.

The summit on Syria will take place at the mansion of VI Mehmed Vahdettin, the last Sultan of Ottoman Empire. The mansion, which belonged to the last Ottoman Sultan Mehmed Vahdettin in the early 20th century, is currently being used as one of the offices of the Presidency.
