Turkiye's Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalın slammed statements said by French President Emmanuel Macron about the "Armenian Genocide Day".
Slamming French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that he declared April 24 as the commemoration day of Armenian Genocide, Kalın underlined that it is a political lie against the historical facts.
"The so-called Armenian genocide allegations are a political lie that is against the historical facts and have no legal grounds," Kalın said and noted that they are null and void for Turkiye.
Recalling Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's call in 2005 to establish a joint historical commission to shed the light on the historical facts, Kalın said they are actually seeking to manipulate the historical events.
Ibrahim Kalın underlined that they will never allow those who are trying to create animosity, hatred, and enmity out of history by distorting Turkiye's past. "No one can accuse Turkiye of a crime it did not commit and denigrate our history."
"We condemn and reject attempts by Mr. Macron, who is facing political problems in his own country, to turn historical events into political material in order to save the day," Kalın noted.
Turkish presidential spokesman also underlined that it is a political and ethical offense to compare sufferings and use them as political materials.
"Turkiye, with an approach of shared pain and fair memory, will continue to support all the well-intentioned efforts aimed at shedding light on the incidents that occurred in the World War I," Kalın said at the end of the statement.
