Despite entering the summer months, the prices of vegetables and fruits are costing a bomb. Citizens for shopping in bazaars and markets often pass by the stalls.
Falling prices in the previous years in the summer season did not decline this year. In this case, both the citizens and the trades are having hard times when high inflation is added.
Rising fruit and vegetable prices during the winter season did not decline also in the summer in Turkiye as well as in Gaziantep, which victimize tradesmen and citizens. Despite being in the summer season, the market tradesman stated that the high prices of vegetables and fruits negatively affects them, they said they expect urgent solutions from the authorities.
Timur Şimşek, who sells delicatessen products in the market, said that the increase in exports in July and the fluctuation in dollar raised the egg prices.
"People complain a lot about prices"
"Prices are high because eggs are produced in very small quantities and because production is short, there are good exports to abroad. The demand for eggs is quite high and the prices are high every day," said Şimşek.
"We expect prices to fall. Warm weather and high prices are reducing the demand for eggs. At the moment there is a 50 percent drop in our sales and the purchasing power of citizens is falling. Even the price of vegetables on the market is affecting us, he added.
"We now want a regular system"
Stating that they wanted help from the authorities to reduce the prices of food, delicatessen, vegetables, and fruits, Şimşek said:
"We want the system to be changed, we now want a regular system. We want to increase in the production. We want the farmer to support the manufacturer. If the product exports on a dollar basis, the people of the country should be thought."
"Authorities should find a solution to these hikes"
In contrast to the past years, Mehmet Doğan, who traded in the local market for the summer season, indicated that both fruit and vegetable prices had been increasing. He attributed these hikes to the wrong economic policies of the state.
Doğan said that the prices of vegetables and fruits have increased recently and that "Prices have increased even more this year compared to the last years. People do not have money in their pockets. We are in a difficult situation. Our sales are inevitably fallen. We buy goods from the wholesale market hall. The farmer [producer] says they do not earn. We also do not earn as sellers. The commissioners are earning. And the recent rise in the dollar has negatively affected us." Doğan also asked the authorities to find a solution to these hikes.
