Military expenditure rose to $1739 billion

According to the annual report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, defense expenditure in the world rose to $1739 billion in 2017.

According to the annual report released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute [SIPRI], global defense expenditure increased by 1739 billion dollars in 2017. Turkiye is on the 15th rank with $ 18200 million defense expenditure according to the report.

At the top of the military expenditure order, the United States is clearly number one. The US defense budget of 2017 amounted to $ 610 billion, making it one-third of the worldwide defense investment.

China's defense expenditure amounted to 228 billion dollars in 2017. China has been increasing its expenditure on defense systems for 20 years. Experts estimate that Beijing's military spending is higher than the government's official records.

According to the report, Russia reduced its military spending by 20 percent in a year to 66 billion 300 million dollars.

Among the European countries that allocated the most resources to defend, France took the 7th place with 57 billion 800 million dollars and the United Kingdom with 47 billion 200 million dollars.

Saudi Arabia is at the top of the countries that devote the most resources to national defense. Japan, which has the lowest defense budget, spent just 0.9 percent of its gross national product.
