Ion Chicu government led by Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova resigned from the government.
Moldovan Parliament was scheduled to debate a no-confidence motion against the government at its December 23 session, but the speaker Zinaida Grechanyi said that the motion of no confidence will not take place.
“The decision was being made in order to trigger early parliamentary elections and so bring the country back to normal,” Chicu said.
The government's resignation comes one day before the end of Dodon's term as president. President-elect Maia Sandu, who was selected as the joint candidate of the pro-European PPDA and PAS parties for President of Moldova in the 2016 election, will be inaugurated on December 24.
