New York Governor resigns after attorney general’s office found he sexually harassed women

Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that he would be resigning from his position as governor of New York in 14 days.

Since late 2020, Cuomo has faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment. New York Attorney General Letitia James commissioned an investigation by private attorneys, resulting in an August 2021 report alleging that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women during his time in office.

President Joe Biden, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have all called on him to resign, and Cuomo is facing criminal investigations in Manhattan, Nassau County, Westchester County, and Albany County.

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will become the first woman governor of New York once Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation takes effect in 14 days.
