"Oil" tension between Kenya and Somalia

A maritime territorial dispute between Kenya and Somalia has caused renewed tension between the two countries. Kenya has summoned its ambassador to Somalia back home.

The maritime territorial dispute between Kenya and Somalia, which is parallel to the right to use territorial waters, re-escalates tensions between the two countries.

Kenya said on Saturday it had summoned its ambassador, Lucas Tumbo, and asked his Somalia counterpart Mohammed Mahmud Nur to return to Mogadishu for consultation with his government.

The tension between Somalia and Kenya has emerged as a result of an auction off oil and gas blocks for oil and gas facilities in the sea between the two countries.

The two countries claim rights in the region and the situation causes the break-up of the relations between the two countries.
