The Egyptian army launched a large-scale operation in the Sinai Peninsula and the Nile Delta before the presidential election to be held on March 26-28.
The Egyptian army spokesman said in a televised statement that the purpose of the operation, called "Operation Sinai 2018," was to tighten control over border areas and "clean up terrorist nests".
Within the scope of the operation, the alarm level for the police and the soldiers was "maximized". According to the information received from the army sources, the operation was planned to be an emergency and with the coordination of the operation, the size was unprecedented with the participation of thousands of soldiers.
Since the fall of President Muhammad Morsi by the army, north of the Sinai Peninsula, there are some acts where police and soldiers being killed.
