Russia recalls its ambassador to US for consultations after Biden remarks on Putin

Russia called its ambassador to the United States back to Moscow for consultations after President Joe Biden said Vladimir Putin would pay a price for interfering U.S. election.

Biden’s comments come after the United States' chief intelligence office released an unclassified report on foreign meddling in the 2020 election that concluded “President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia authorized extensive efforts to interfere in the American presidential election.”

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had called its ambassador back to Moscow to discuss the future of Russia's relationship with the United States.

The statement said that the move had been designed to ensure bilateral ties did not degrade irreparably.
