Russia to reopen its embassy in Libya: Foreign Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday that Russia will re-open its embassy in Libya.

During his meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives of Libya Aguila Saleh, Lavrov reiterated Russia's desire for a cessation of hostilities in Libya and the beginning of political dialogue.

“We took a decision to reopen the Russian embassy in Libya, which will at this stage be headed by Charge d'Affaires Jamshed Boltaev. He will temporarily be based in Tunisia, but I want to emphasise that his functions include representing Russia across all Libya's territory,” Lavrov said.

Russia evacuated its diplomats from Libya in October 2, 2013 after an armed group attacked its embassy in Tripoli. The attack on Russia's embassy in Tripoli came as retaliation after a Russian woman killed a local officer and injured his mother, the Foreign Ministry confirmed.
