Sanctions against ministers are mutually lifted with the US: Foreign Ministry

Foreign Ministry announced Friday that Turkiye has lifted sanctions against US' ministers following the US announcement that lifted sanctions against Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu and Justice Minister Abdulhamid Gül.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that sanctions against the ministers were lifted mutually with the United States.

In accordance with the principle of reciprocity that constitutes the essence of diplomatic practices, we responded in the same fashion when the United States Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against Minister of Interior, Mr. Süleyman Soylu, and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abdülhamit Gül on August 1st, 2018," said Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affair in a statement.

"Hence, we imposed sanctions against the United States Attorney General Mr. Jeff Sessions and the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Ms. Kirstjen M. Nielsen," the statement read.

Adding that in parallel with the decision of the United States Department of the Treasury to lift the said sanctions against Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, the Turkish side has decided to lift sanctions against the United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M.
