Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was taken into custody during an investigation into allegations of illicit financial support from Libya during the 2007 presidential elections.
Reuters reported that the Nanterre police were questioning the former president on irregularities in financing Sarkozy's 2007 election campaign. The Le Monde newspaper has announced that Sarkozy's custody may last up to 48 hours.
