Services confidence index realizes as 102.2 in May: TurkStat

The confidence index decreased in services and retail trade sectors while increased in the construction sector, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted confidence index decreased by 1.1% in services and 2.1% in retail trade sectors while increased by 3.0% in the construction sector in May compared to April, according to the statement.

Services confidence index realized as 102.2

The seasonally adjusted confidence index which was 103.3 for services in April decreased by 1.1% in May to 102.2. In the services sector compared to the previous month, the business situation over the past three months sub-index decreased by 6.3% to 96.7. Demand-turnover over the past three months sub-index decreased by 2.2% to 100.9 and demand-turnover expectation over the next three months sub-index increased by 5.2% to 109.0.

Retail trade confidence index realized as 100.9

Seasonally adjusted retail trade confidence index decreased by 2.1% in May to 100.9. In the retail trade sector compared to the previous month, business activity sales over the past three months sub-index decreased by 13.6% to 101.0. The current volume of stock sub-index increased by 3.5% to 90.8 and business activity-sales expectation over the next three months sub-index increased by 5.9% to 110.9.

Construction confidence index realized as 79.6

The seasonally adjusted construction confidence index which was 77.3 in April increased by 3.0% in May to 79.6. In the construction sector compared to the previous month, the current overall order books sub-index became 74.5 by decreasing 0.5%. Total employment expectation over the next three months sub-index increased by 6.3% to 84.7.

In the construction sector, 53.2% of the enterprises indicated at least one factor limiting their activities while 46.8% of the enterprises indicated none in May. Among the main factors limiting activities in the construction sector; “financial constraints” which was 28.7% in April realized as 24.2% in May, “insufficient demand” which was 25.5% in April realized as 26.6% in May, and “other factors” which was 23.9% in April realized as 30.1% in May.
