The first coronavirus case confirmed in Northern Cyprus

A 65-year-old woman from Germany has tested positive for new coronavirus, Turkish Cypriot Health Minister Ali Pilli announced on Tuesday.

"The woman was taken to a hospital in Gazimagusa and the hotel is quarantined now," the minister stated.

The German woman was one of 30 tourists who arrived in northern Cyprus from Balingen in Germany on Sunday.

The patient health condition remains well and she is still receiving treatment, according to the official.

The schools have closed until Monday in the country.

The death toll from coronavirus outbreak, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has exceeded 4,000, with 113,603 confirmed cases around the world.
