The US cannot achieve result with sanctions and pressure: Çavuşoğlu

Speaking at the Ambassador's Conference, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu emphasized that the US could not get any result with sanctions, threats, and pressure.

Speaking at the opening of the 10th Ambassador's Conference, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said in a statement on US sanctions that the US could not gain anything from sanctions, threats, and pressure.

"Despite all kinds of operations the perception, Turkiye is the most suitable country to invest," said Minister Çavuşoğlu. "While the US made $6,3 billion humanitarian aid, Turkiye has made $8,3 billion humanitarian aid. We provide the most protection in the world. We are not siding the strong; we defend the rights of the oppressed. Our main priority is open and transparent," he added.

"It’s impossible for us to accept these sanctions and threats. Our expectation from the U.S. is to remain loyal to our traditional friendship and our NATO alliance," Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said.

"The U.S. is in a confusion. Should we resolve this problem with Turkiye or should we maintain it until November elections?" Çavuşoğlu said, referring to mid-term polls for the U.S. Congress.

The minister stressed that the U.S. should learn that they would not achieve any results with sanctions while calling for more dialogue and diplomacy.

"Turkiye has done enough to repair ties", he said, underlining that the culture of compromise requires both sides' steps for resolving questions.

Çavuşoğlu also recalled that the U.S. has not taken any concrete step on Turkiye’s extradition request for Fethullah Gülen, believed to be the mastermind of July 2016 coup attempt and has acted contrary to the alliance regarding the fundamental security issues of Turkiye.
