The van carrying refugees burst into flames kills 17

Seventeen people lost their lives and 36 people were injured after a van carrying immigrants burst into flames in Turkiye's Iğdir province.

A van carrying immigrants hit the light pole, burst into flames on Iğdır-Kars killed 17 people, and 36 others injured.

The accident took place at nighttime near Iğdır Şehit Bulent Aydin Airport square. According to reports, a 65 EP 701 plate van, carrying Afghans, Pakistanis, and Iranian immigrants, who determined that crossed Turkiye-Iran border illegally, lost control and hit the light pole.

While the van, also carrying women and children burst into flames, another 04 D 5636 plated van that was carrying other immigrants crashed into wounded immigrants, those scattered on the road from the first van crash.

Due to the accident, 17 people lost their lives and 36 other people were injured. The bodies and the wounded and of those who lost their lives were taken to the Igdir State Hospital by the health teams.

An investigation into the accident was launched by the prosecution.

Iğdır Governor Enver Ünlü, who was in the explanations after his examinations at the scene of the accident, said, "The accident took place at 23.45 pm. When we arrived at the scene of the incident, we faced a refugee and immigrant tragedy."
