Trump blocks transfer of F-35 warplanes to Turkiye

US President Donald Trump has signed into law a defense policy bill that will hold up the transfer to Turkiye of 100 F-35 fighter jets.

US President Donald Trump signed the US Department of Defense's bill for the $ 716 billion the fiscal year 2019 in a ceremony in New York.

The $716 billion John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (NDAA) calls a halt to weapons sales to Turkiye until the Pentagon produces a report within 90 days detailing U.S.-Turkish relations and the effect of cutting Turkiye out of the F-35 production chain.

Turkiye was aiming to buy a minimum of 100 fifth generation F-35 aircraft.
