The U.S. President Trump on Tuesday offered to send in the US army to take on Mexican drug cartels after three women and six children from a faith- based community in northern Mexico were killed in an attack.
“If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump said on Twitter.
He added: “The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!”
But Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrado rejected that offer, stating previous Mexican governments have tried a military solution and it didn't work.
Obrado said: "We have to act independently and according to our constitution, and in line with our tradition of independence and sovereignty."
