Turkey: HDP MP Gergerlioğlu detained by police in parliament

HDP deputy Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, who was staying in the Turkish Grand National Assembly to protest the stripping of his MP status, was detained by the police early in the morning.

The police detained the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) lawmaker Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, who had been staying in the parliament for four nights to protest the stripping of his MP status.

In February 2018, Gergerlioğlu was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for “spreading terrorist propaganda” by sharing a news story link on Twitter.

Due to this conviction, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu was stripped of his parliamentary membership on 17 March 2021.
