Turkish police seize more than 10 kg of heroin in eastern Turkey

The heroin was seized when the police stopped and searched a man on suspicion of drug trafficking in Van province, the Provincial Police Department said in a statement.

The suspect, identified by initials I.T., was remanded in custody after being arrested at the scene by anti-drug police.

Turkey maintains strict laws against the use, possession, or trafficking of illegal drugs. If convicted under these offenses, one could receive a heavy fine or a prison sentence of 4 to 24 years.
