Turkiye's population of almost 81 million

According to the Address-Based Population Registration System results, Turkiye's population increased by 995,654 people, became 80,810,525.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced the results of the address based population registration system in 2017. Accordingly, Turkiye's population as of December 31, 2017, was 80,810,525 people.

Population residing in Turkiye in 2017, 995,654 people increased compared to the previous year.

More than half of the population consists of men

While the male population was 40,535,135 people, the female population was 40,275,390. According to this, 50.2 percent of the total population is composed of men and 49.8 percent of women.

The annual rate of population growth was 13.5 percent in 2016 and 12.4 percent in 2017.

While the proportion of residents in provincial and district centers was 92.3 percent in 2016, this ratio increased to 92.5 percent in 2017. The rate of people living in towns and villages is 7.5 percent.

Most Population is in Istanbul, the least population is in Bayburt

Istanbul is the most crowded population of 15,029,231 people and has 18.6 percent population of Turkiye. Istanbul was followed by 5,445,026 people in Ankara, 4,279,677 people in İzmir, 2,936,803 people in Bursa and 2,364,396 people in Antalya. Bayburt was the province with the least population of 80,417 people.

The median age of Turkiye's population rose

While the median age was 31.4 in Turkiye in 2016, it increased to 31.7 in 2017 compared to the previous year. Median age was 31.1 in males and 32.4 in females. The median age is highest; in Sinop with 39,7, in Balıkesir with 39,4 and in Kastamonu and Edirne with 38,9.   The median age is the lowest; in Şanlıurfa with 19,6, Şırnak with 20,1 and Ağrı with 20,9.
