UN adopts resolution supporting Palestinian self‑determination

Members of the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and sovereignty on their occupied land, including east Jerusalem.

The resolution was passed by 153 votes in favor, six against (israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, United States, Canada), and 17 abstentions.

Following this overwhelming vote in support of the Palestinian people, the General Assembly urged all countries and UN specialized agencies to continue to assist the Palestinians in the early realization of this right.

Commenting on this resolution, Palestinian foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki said that the voting in favor of this resolution asserted the Palestinian people’s right to their natural resources, including land, energy, water, without detracting from their right to their sea borders and their right to compensation for the resources that had been exploited by the zionist regime.
